Iris Ministries (Website)

http://www.irismin.org/

Iris Ministries is a holistic ministry that we began in 1980 as we took small evangelistic street drama teams to Asia on short-term mission trips. Our emphasis was the creative presentation of the Gospel, and our ministry grew greatly. But we were so impacted by the condition of the poor that we changed direction drastically and began to stop for the one and prove the love of God by first addressing the temporal needs of the broken and humble, "the least of these." We focused on the bottom of society rather than the top. Now, after coming to Africa and starting with street beggar children in 1995, we have seen a people movement spread across the ten provinces of Mozambique. Massive desperation for God rising out of a long history of repression, poverty and natural disasters has fueled revival, one that is sparking more fire in nations around the world. And signs and wonders are following all the way.
What began as a ragged band of young beggars, thieves and delinquents has developed by the power of the Holy Spirit into a closely-knit national family of thousands of churches and a broad ministry encompassing Bible schools, children's centers, church-based orphan care, primary education, medical clinics, constant evangelistic and healing outreaches, farming, well drilling and much else. Our vision in the Lord is constantly increasing.
But most of all we proclaim Jesus. He is our salvation, our prize, our reward, our inheritance, our destination, our motivation, our joy, wisdom and sanctification -- and absolutely everything else we need, now and forever. All His grace and power flow to us through the Cross and no other way. We are glad to be known as social workers and humanitarians, and to have a reputation for doing good. But all is in vain if we do not bring to the people faith in our God and Savior Jesus Christ. We want to be known by His Name, first and foremost. And we do not expect fruitfulness to come out of anything but intimacy with Him...

Compelled by Love (Book)

http://www.amazon.com/Compelled-Love-change-through-simple/dp/1599793512

Compelled by Love, the true story of the ministry of Heidi and Rolland Baker in the war-torn, poverty and disease-stricken country of Mozambique, chronicles twenty-seven years of ministry among the poorest people on earth. The book is based upon the beatitudes as seen through the eyes of third-world pastors and missionaries. The Bakers have experienced God’s miraculous provision of food to thousands, brought physical healing and spiritual wholeness to His poorest children, and witnessed the transformed hearts of people caught in desperate life or death situations. Their stories prove the reality of God’s kingdom on earth, and demonstrate how to transform this world through the power of love.

A Review of Heidi Baker’s Compelled by Love

by Steve Eastman

Attending a Heidi Baker meeting in a Western country can be puzzling for the uninitiated.  Not puzzling in a bad way, if you’re spiritually hungry.  It’s puzzling in a way that makes you want to understand the mystery of God operating in her life.  I went to one of her meetings a few years ago.  Heidi gets on her knees when she’s “supposed” to be preaching.  She laughs.   She cries.  She praises.  Her new book initiates the uninitiated.  We learn she’s compelled by God’s love.

Many people would say Heidi Baker was an unlikely candidate for a ministry to the world’s poorest.  As her husband Rolland tells us in his forward, “She had a privileged upbringing, living on a private beach, and lacked nothing in education, comforts, and opportunity.”  She even earned a PhD in systematic theology.  When the couple arrived in Mozambique, they had no money and few contacts.  It brings to mind how God sent the apostle Paul, a Hebrew of the Hebrews, to reach the Gentiles.  Heidi and Paul have something else in common – a vision that birthed a ministry.

By the age of 16, according to Rolland’s forward, Heidi “… had already been mystically taken to heaven and commissioned by Jesus to be a missionary and a minister to Asia, England, and Africa.”  In the earthly realm, she draws inspiration from the example of Mother Theresa, whose quotes set the stage for nearly every chapter.

Heidi also draws inspiration from the children and other poor she encounters.  The very foundation of Compelled by Love is living out the Beatitudes, which grant the poor in spirit, the meek and other weak ones the blessings of the Kingdom of Heaven.  These promises are often spiritualized away in the West, but they are a matter of life and death in Mozambique, just like the miracles.

One day someone gave the Bakers money for a feast of chicken, 1,138 pieces to be exact.  Heidi and Rolland followed the illustration in the book of Luke and invited the poor, the crippled, the blind and lame -- more than 2,200 of them.  It turns out there was more than enough. Families even got to take some home.

It seems like the Bakers and Iris Ministries move from one crisis to another.  She has been in jail for her faith.  Rolland has been terribly sick.  Natural disasters strike an already impoverished country.  There are no back-up plans.  Each situation is an opportunity to trust in God and remember that the Beatitudes and other principles of Scripture really work.

Heidi’s typical day may include holding an AIDS-stricken orphan, praying against attacks from bandits and performing a wedding for a former prostitute who will now follow Jesus at any cost.  Westerners come to volunteer, sometimes for weeks at a time.  They hunger for the presence of Jesus.  Seeing Heidi Baker in action in Mozambique is not puzzling at all.

The Works of God (WEBSITE)

Reflections on the sovereignty of God over disability, disease and suffering, for God's glory and for our good.

10AMAZING MUSLIMS (WEBSITE)

http://www.amazingmuslims.com/

Welcome to amazingmuslims.com, a website dedicated to real-life stories of Sunni and
Shiite Muslims, their faith in Allah, the Qur'an, and their amazing encounters with
the God of Abraham.
This unique spiritual phenomenon is sweeping the Muslim world in direct contrast to the widely accepted image of terrorism and fear that Muslims have become synonymous with since 9/11.
The men and women featured here come from a wide demographic of Muslims, from zealous jihadists to peace-seeking leaders, from humble Bedouins to dedicated scholars of the Qur’an and the Hadith. Some are simply ordinary Muslims in search of answers from God—all committed followers of Allah and Islam with a deep affinity for truth in their hearts.
In our world today we tend to label and distance ourselves from what we don’t understand. This often leads to hardened positions of prejudice and mistrust, and subsequently to violence. We don’t have to look much further than the conflicts surrounding Islam, Judaism, and Christianity—the three religions that find their origins in the biblical patriarch Abraham.
Many people think the Bible is only important to Christians and doubt its relevance to Jews and especially to Muslims. However, for the Jew, the Torah (Tawrat), the Prophets and entire Old Testament is the Word of God. As for Muslims, they are commanded to have equal faith in these previous books that came from God, and the Gospel of the New Testament.  Here is what the Qur’an says in Sura 2:136:
“We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma’il, Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and to Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them…”
Through this site and its resources you will hear truths from the Qur’an, the Tawrat (Torah), the Zabur (Psalms) and the Injil (Gospel), along with the ancient prophets of God. You will discover that the Torah and the prophetic Scriptures reveal God's plan for Muslims and that the Qur'an has much to say about Jesus.
I believe that in each of us is a longing for the truth, and I trust that you are a truth-seeker. Perhaps you have questions that you grapple with on your journey of faith. You might have intellectual questions as well as deep spiritual and heart-felt questions, a longing to truly know God and be known by God.
You found your way to this website and we believe your journey has begun. And so we want to bless and honor you. If you're a Muslim, the book 10 Amazing Muslims Touched by God is yours for free.
As you read it you will be inspired, challenged, and at times even astonished. I pray that this book enriches your spirit, touches your heart, and stretches your mind.
If you have Muslim friends, neighbours, and colleagues, and you want to bless them with a book, we offer different options for you to do so. The message of this book is powerful, paradigm-shattering, and life-changing. We believe that 10 Amazing Muslims Touched by God will feed the souls of thousands, even millions of amazed and amazing Muslims around the world.

Conversations with God

When I read 1 Thessalonians 5:17 which asks to “pray continually”, I almost couldn’t help myself laugh at the very impracticality of that statement then.
What does that mean to “pray continually”, don’t we have other things to do throughout the day-I pondered. How is it possible to “pray continually” when people struggle keeping up their ordinary routine prayer life- I questioned within myself.
Looks like God decided to teach me what it means. The following next 2 weeks I struggled to have my routine quite time with God.
I didn’t know how to deal with it and I was asking God “why are you doing this to me?” (But His peace and joy never eluded me in-spite of my incapability to pray).
So it struck me to break my routine long prayer into short 1-5 minute prayers, which I could do through the day during its course.
As I started praying during days routine, I learnt to make it as a ‘conversation with God’ rather than “Prayer”, because I was reminded that Jesus called Himself our friend (John 21) and our brother (Matthew 12:50).
Suddenly God who is our God and Father, became a friend and brother in my everyday living, through the “conversations”- new way of praying I learnt.
After that, my prayer life and walk with God not only restored to old, but improved than ever before. This brought to me a thought- is this is called “walking with God”, when you are always conversing with Him throughout the day sharing to Him as a friend.
The whole Christian living became a life of ease and great awesomeness as I kept these conversations going with God throughout the day. Prayer no more requires a gathering of concentration and strength before I sit in His presence.
I was bowled by the awesomeness of our majestic God, who describes Himself as jealous in nature.
He wants to be with us throughout each moment like a dearest friend, brother and Father, walk with us as we pray/converse/talk and wants to help in every work of ours, if we submit to Him.
What a great loving God we have!
